Challenge
Atlas Copco Specialty Rental Belgium, a global leader in temporary air, power, steam, and nitrogen rental solutions, aimed to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could transform their operational efficiency and customer engagement strategies. Their vision was clear: leverage AI-driven insights to elevate customer experiences and maximise fleet utilisation. However, realising this vision was hindered by limited internal expertise in recognising impactful AI use cases, and uncertainty regarding integration of these solutions into existing business processes.
Solution
Faktion developed and facilitated an AI Pathfinder & Strategy workshop, uniquely designed to bridge the client’s knowledge gap and provide clarity on AI opportunities aligned with their strategic goals. Unlike standard market offerings, Faktion’s approach prioritised active collaboration, targeted education, and rigorous evaluation of potential AI use cases.
The workshop solution involved:
- Conducting an interactive AI Education & Inspiration session to build internal AI reasoning capabilities, directly enabling teams to independently recognise and ideate valuable AI opportunities.
- Collaborative analysis of current workflows, user stories, operational pains, and opportunities, ensuring AI use cases align closely with real-world client challenges.
- Establishing clear criteria and methods for evaluating and prioritising AI opportunities based on business impact, feasibility, and ROI.
Approach
Faktion’s structured, iterative, and collaborative methodology included clearly defined steps:
- Preparation (2 days): Thorough stakeholder interviews, detailed analysis of business processes, and identification of critical data sources, ensuring tailored workshop content.
- Workshop Delivery (2 days): Active sessions applying design-thinking methodologies, collaboratively mapping current operational workflows and identifying pain points and opportunities for AI integration.
- Evaluation & Roadmap (1 day): Prioritised evaluation of potential AI pilots, clearly defining scope, KPIs, tasks, budgets, and timelines necessary to validate Proof-of-Concept projects, providing the client with actionable and strategically aligned next steps.
Outcome
The workshop resulted in two prioritised, high-value AI pilot projects ready for productising:
- Marketing Automation & Personalisation
- Automated Fleet Transfer Identification Reporting
Additionally, Atlas Copco received:
- A prioritised longlist of clearly scoped AI use cases, each with measurable KPIs and ROI expectations.
- Defined workflows and required data resources for each pilot.
- High-level budget estimates, roadmap and implementation timelines for the productising projects.
- Structured criteria for evaluating future AI initiatives significantly reduce uncertainty and streamline strategic decision-making.
Atlas Copco Specialty Rental now has a clear strategic direction and robust internal capability to effectively leverage AI, driving tangible outcomes in both customer engagement and fleet optimisation
